If crisp edges, undercuts, fine surface details and other aesthetic concerns are of importance to your product--or if you require controlled wall thickness for strength--pressure forming might be the process you need. Pressure forming is a type of thermoforming that involves the traditional "vacuum draw" to pull the heated plastic onto the mold. But at the same time, air is also inserted from the "back side" of the mold to press the plastic more firmly. The result is sharp corners and other details normally attainable only through injection molding. However, the cost for pressure forming tooling is only a fraction of what is required for injection molding. It is almost always the process of choice for low to medium part quantities especially when the parts are large in size. Particularly suitable are such items as computer housings, business machinery and electronic equipment.
